Toffees and Gunners tasty bets in derby duels

The first of two cracking big games sees Liverpool chalked up odds-on at 17/20 to beat arch rivals Everton at Anfield (12.45pm KO, Live on BT Sport1), but I fancy the Toffees to cause an upset at a tasty looking 7/2 with Coral.

Both sides come into this match having made a poor start to the season, with Liverpool suffering three defeats already and their opponents having won just one game.

There really is nothing to choose between the pair on current form, and the Reds owe their position at the head of the market purely on their terrific record in this fixture.

Everton have not won at Anfield since back in September 1999, losing seven times and drawing on seven others occasions.

However, with Brendan Rodgers’ side looking a shadow of the team that finished runner-up last season since the departure of Luis Suarez, this looks the perfect opportunity for the Toffees to bag all three points.

Roberto Martinez’s men are more than capable of serving it up to the Reds, and have strikers in Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas that will be relishing taking on a Liverpool defence that has been virtually non-existent in recent games.

The Anfield outfit have conceded first in three of their five Premier League matches, and could well find themselves playing catch-up again given that Everton have opened the scoring in four of their last five.

For that reason alone, 7/2 about a Toffees triumph looks far too big.

Another bet that stands out like a sore thumb, given the defensive frailties of both sides, is over 2.5 goals at 8/15, and I also think that over 3.5 is worth a punt at 11/8 in a game which has high scoring written all over it.

Arsenal are 8/11 with Coral to beat Spurs in their teatime kick-off encounter at the Emirates (5.30pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1) and look worthy odds-on shots to do just that.

The Gunners have tasted victory in four of their last five derbies with their north London rivals, and Tottenham have won just one of their last 21 away games against them.

Arsene Wenger’s side have also made a really solid start to the season, and were ultra impressive and clinical when beating Aston Villa 3-0 last weekend.

Yes, they suffered a setback against Southampton in the Capital One Cup in midweek, but that competition was not top of Wenger’s agenda and he left out a whole host of key players with this game firmly in mind.

There is little doubt that the Frenchman will field the strongest starting XI possible for this, and I fully expect Arsenal to prove far too strong for a Spurs side who have failed to win in the league since beating lowly QPR last month.

Arsenal to win to nil also looks worth a wager at 23/10 given that Spurs have so far failed to fire in front of goal, while in the first scorer market Aaron Ramsey looks decent value at 7/1.

The Welshman has been in terrific form, netting twice in five league games, and is always a threat going forward.

Best bets:
Liverpool v Everton
Everton to win – 7/2
Over 2.5 goals – 8/15
Over 3.5 goals – 11/8

Arsenal v Spurs
Arsenal to win – 8/11
Arsenal to win to nil – 23/10
Ramsey first goalscorer – 7/1
