Royal baby gamble bashes British bookies

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Today’s royal baby announcement has hit British bookies for hundreds of thousands of pounds. In July, leading bookmaker Coral was forced to suspend betting on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announcing royal baby number two, following a sustained gamble.

“Two months ago, we witnessed one of the largest ever royal gambles on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announcing baby no.2, and today’s news has hit us with a substantial six-figure pay-out,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.

Before closing the betting, the firm slashed the odds on Will and Kate making an announcement before the end of September to even money from 10-1.

Alexandra has been installed as the 5-1 favourite, ahead of Elizabeth at 6-1 and Victoria at 7-1. If they have a boy, James is the 3-1 favourite, while Alexander has been chalked up at 6-1.

**If it’s a girl:

5-1 Alexandra, 6-1 Elizabeth, 7-1 Diana, 7-1 Victoria, 14-1 Georgia, 16-1 Mary, 20-1 Frances, 20-1 Alice, 25-1 Harriet, Pippa, Catherine

**If it’s a boy:

3-1 James, 6-1 Alexander, 10-1 Louis, 14-1 Henry, 14-1 Albert, 16-1 Richard, 16-1 Arthur, 25-1 Phillip, 33-1 Edward, 33-1 Spencer, 33-1 Alfred, 40-1 bar.
