Coral’s Premier League team of matchweek 5: Shock selection!

Another round, and another shock set of results in the Premier League, which included Manchester United imploding at Leicester City, Liverpool losing to West Ham, the Eagles swooping to snatch three points against Everton, while West Brom’s win at White Hart Lane was another unexpected result.

Coral bring you their take on the team of the weekend in the Premier League.

Goalkeeper: Tom Heaton
The Burnley custodian kept another clean sheet, to make it three in a row, as the Clarets held Sunderland to a goalless draw. Sean Dyche’s team are 7/4 to stay in the Premier League.

Right back: Nathaniel Clyne
Probably one of the most consistent performers in the league this season, the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength, and could easily offer competition to Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker in the England setup.

Centre back: Michael Duff
Up against experienced Premier League personnel, Burnley’s 36-year-old defender gave a good account of himself, to keep out Sunderland’s Connor Wickham, Jack Rodwell, Sebastian Larsson and Adam Johnson, and partnered well with Clarets captain Jason Shackell.

Centre back: Joleon Lescott
It could turn out to be a very astute decision from head coach Alan Irvine to bring Lescott to the club. Fit at long last, he contributed a mature performance as the Baggies beat Spurs, and will be a key player as they battle relegation.

Left back: Cesar Azpilicueta
It was a tidy performance from the Spaniard, who is keeping new signing Filipe Luis out of the team, and he handled Manchester City’s James Milner well, who had to switch to the left for more joy, and then nullified threats from Jesus Navas when he came on. Following Chelsea’s draw at the Eithad, they are odds-on at 4/7 to win the title.

Right wing: Stewart Downing
An excellent showing from the 30-year-old against former club Liverpool, as the Hammers beat the Reds 3-1, with the winger involved in two of his team’s goals, with one assist.

Box-to-box midfielder: Frank Lampard
There must have been a touch of deja vu for Jose Mourinho, seeing his former player scoring against his Blues side. Lampard gave a mature and professional performance, as he came off the bench to grab the equaliser for new club City being, as always, in the right place at the right time.

Attacking midfield: Mesut Ozil
Despite the fact that most of the Aston Villa squad was struck down with a stomach virus just before the match, Arsene Wenger moved Ozil into a central berth behind the striker, and the German was at his best, with a goal and an assist.

Left wing: Andre Schurrle
The German winger was lively when he came off the bench at the Etihad, providing a consistent threat down the left, and topping off his cameo with a well-taken goal.

Striker: Jamie Vardy
Leicester’s version of Rickie Lambert, having come from non-league, was arguably the best player of the weekend, having a hand in all of the Foxes goals, who beat Manchester United 5-3. He scored, contributed two assists and won two penalties. Roy Hodgson, are you watching?

Striker: Papiss Cisse
At two goals down, and with the crowd on his back, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew had to do something drastic. On came substitute Cisse to score two goals in 15 minutes, and potentially save his boss’ job.
