Bath boosted by Anthony Watson new deal

| 09.09.2014

Following Bath’s good start to the new Aviva Premiership season, after beating Sale Sharks 29-20, they have tied England hope Anthony Watson down to a new contract, extending his stay at the club, who are 8/1 to win the Grand Final, until 2017. The player had a fantastic start to the match, scoring in the first minute, and impressed throughout.

Coach Mike Ford was quick to comment on the good news: “Anthony is an incredible talent and we’re obviously delighted he’s staying with us.

“I think what is most exciting for us as coaches is that he’s still young and still has so much potential to get better.

“He has a real natural ability on the field and that will only become more finely tuned as he gets more experience.

“He’s the kind of player that you want to watch, that will constantly baffle defences as they don’t know what he’s going to do next, and we’re all looking forward to working with him and helping him progress in his career.”

Having moved from London Irish to Bath last summer, Watson is confident that he made the right move, and has dazzled at both full back and wing so far.

“Last season was great for me in many ways, from getting regular first team rugby in a winning team, to being called up to tour with England this summer,” said Watson, who will hope to play a key part in his club’s hunt for silverware this season, with Bath 9/1 to be the regular season winner.

“And I know that a large part of the reason I’ve managed to do all that is due to my move to Bath,” continued the 20-year-old, who toured New Zealand with the British Lions in the summer, despite not playing.

“The club has a fantastic commitment to developing young players and making them the best they can be.”
