Spurs looking for show of strength against Cypriot side Limassol

Life under Mauricio Pochettino has been fruitful for Tottenham so far, with three wins in three games in all competitions and a spectacular seven goals scored.

It is far too early to make assertions on the Argentine coach’s long term prospects at White Hart Lane, but his side are odds-on at 1/6 to deliver the final blow and defeat Cypriot champions AEL Limassol in the second leg of their Europa League tie.

Spurs were triumphant in the first leg, after toiling away in tough conditions to snatch a 2-1 victory, a scoreline they are 10/1 to repeat.

Pochettino’s men have been on a plum run recently and, after putting four past newly-promoted Premier League side QPR in their last outing, should be looking to lay down a marker in Europe.

A rejuvenated Erik Lamela has been behind some of Spurs’ best play so far this season, and was the catalyst for his club’s comeback in the first leg away win to AEL. The Argentine attacker came off the bench in the 72nd minute to rescue his trailing side’s blushes, providing assists for both Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane, before almost crowning the game with a goal himself.

The former Roma wideman is 6/1 to fire home first in the return leg, and 7/4 to score anytime, to put the icing on the cake after his previous performance.

Spain striker Soldado, meanwhile, is out with neck and back injuries, joining first-choice right Kyle Walker on the sidelines. Kane or Emmanuel Adebayor, who was on target in Tottenham’s 4-0 Premier League rout of QPR last time out, will lead the attack.

Eric Dier is also set to start, and the former Sporting Lisbon starlet has already illustrated he can be a handy addition in the opposition’s half too. The 20-year-old defender has a fine record of two goals in three appearances this season so far, and is 8/1 to be a menace again and score anytime against Ivaylo Petev’s side.

Pochettino may plump to rest key players such as Christian Eriksen, after his squad’s Premier League exploits, but after the first leg scare it is clear that AEL should not be underestimated.

The plucky Cypriot side can apparently count London Mayor Boris Johnson amongst their fans, and took an early lead in the first clash courtesy of Adrien Sardinero, who is 14/1 to hit home first again.

Petev will be hoping his team’s previous good showing may inspire them to rise to the occasion and pull off a shock giant-killing. The Tsirion team are 9/1 to win over 90 minutes and slay a Spurs side who are favourites at 14/1 to lift the Europa League trophy.
