Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson, whose side are 7/2 to be top Midlands club this term in the Premier League, has confirmed that the stories linking him with Argentine star Esteban Cambiasso are true. However, the Foxes boss is not pleased with the person who spread the word.

“It’s like most things with deals you might be linked with, I am not going to say we are not [interested], because we are,” Pearson said. “But what is disappointing is that some clown somewhere down the line has leaked information which is very sensitive.

Cambiasso, who turns 34 this month (August), is currently a free agent, following his departure from Inter Milan after a decade, and reports suggest he had agreed a deal to join Leicester for a season, with an option to extend.

However, now their interest has gone public, QPR are rumoured to be in the hunt, and could likely offer the defensive midfielder a more lucrative contract, as well as giving him the chance to live in London. Tottenham were also reportedly interested earlier this summer.

“You know how I work,” Pearson continued. “I like to do business in the right way and make sure all parties’ interests are looked after for the right reasons, and for some reason some balloon head has decided to leak it and that is entirely up to whoever clown that is.

“I don’t know [if we will sign him] because I don’t know the intentions of the person who leaked the information.

“If people want to cause a problem for us or anyone else, it is up to them, but as far as I am concerned we try and do our business, which is correct for us as a football club and protects all parties.

“There are always going to be deals that can’t be done and, if they can’t, you try to do it in a way so that the interests of the individuals are not compromised.”

If Leicester are to snap up Cambiasso, they’d be getting a real coup. Despite his nickname of ‘Cuchu’ (meaning old man), he is still highly rated, and managed 32 games in Serie A last term, scoring four. He only missed matches when injured or suspended.

The Foxes currently have former Manchester United duo Danny Drinkwater and Matty James in the heart of their midfield. With Pearson favouring a 4-4-2 formation, the latter would likely make way for the 52-time capped Argentine.

Leicester are odds-on at 3/10 to stay up this term, and 13/5 for relegation.
