Yarmouth Preview: Enobled poised to exploit class drop
Enobled shaped as if coming back to form last time out and can take advantage of a drop in grade to land the 1m 1f handicap at Yarmouth today (4.10).
The Sir Michael Stoute trained colt looked a smart prospect when showing a nice turn of foot to land a maiden at Goodwood last May, but then failed to cut any ice in two subsequent runs in handicaps last year.
However, the son of Dansili shaped better than the bare result suggests on seasonal reappearance when 16th of 23 in the ultra-competitive Spring Mile at Newbury and duly built on that effort last time up when an excellent fourth to Sea Shanty in a class 2 contest at Sandown.
Enobled looked slightly unlucky in the latter, being denied a clear run at a vital stage before staying on strongly to be beaten just two lengths.
The form of the race has been franked by the winner going on to finish fourth in the Royal Hunt Cup, and Enobled is going to take the world of beating off an unchanged mark of 84 now dropped into class 3 company.
In the 1m handicap (3.40), Lilly Junior looks potentially thrown-in off an opening mark of 72 and a worthy favourite to land the spoils.
The William Haggas trained filly has shaped with pleny of promise in three maiden runs, most notably last time out when a 5 1/2 length third to Belle D’or at Salisbury.
The winner has gone on to land a Listed contest at Sandown and is now rated 104, and that suggests that Lilly Junior’s current rating could seriously underestimate her ability.
Another plus is that her handler boats an incredible 54% strike rate with his runners at the venue in the past 12 months, and with further improvement on the cards this looks a golden opportunity for Lilly Junior to get off the mark.
The unexposed Alphabetique has caught the eye in her last two runs and wouldn’t have to improve much to land the 1m 2f handicap (4.40).
The Peter Chapple-Hyam trained filly has only had four runs, and shaped really well on her second start this season when finishing fourth to Seagull in a decent maiden at Newmarket.
The winner is now rated 86, and Swan Lakes and Perfect Light, who finished second and sixth, both won next time up.
That is strong form in the context of this class 5 contest, and makes Alphabetique look on a potentially handy rating off 68 having shaped well for a long way before finishing sixth to Lisamour on handicap debut at Nottingham last time out.
