Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are closing in on the capture of free agent and goalkeeper Craig Gordon. He will provide competition for the Glasgow giants’ number one Fraser Forster.

Bhoys boss Ronny Deila said: “We can make this happen but it’s not confirmed yet. We need to have alternatives. You always make contingency plans. If you are going to bring in older players then they need to have the right mentality and Craig has that.”

In other news, talented teenager Ryan Gauld has completed his switch to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, signing a six-year contract and moving for a reported £3m. Highly-rated 18-year-old Gauld exits Dundee United (11/4 in Coral’s outright without Celtic market) and now has a reported buyout clause of £48m in his contract.

The Tannadice outfit are also facing a battle to keep hold of their other prized asset. Left back Andy Robertson has been the subject of two bids from West Ham (5/2 for a top 10 finish) as they seek to replace Pablo Armero and George McCartney. Dundee United have rebuffed both offers, the latest being a reported £1.5m.

Sticking on the theme of Scottish left backs, Swansea (5/1 to be relegated) have swooped for Falkirk teenager Stephen Kingsley. The 19-year-old has penned a three-year deal at the Liberty Stadium, with speculation mounting that Wales international Ben Davies will leave Garry Monk’s men for Tottenham (11/4 for a top four finish).

And finally, Leeds United captain Ross McCormack has reportedly handed in a transfer request at Elland Road. The Whites, 3/1 shots to be relegated from the Championship, could opt to sell their star striker to recently relegated Fulham.

Felix Magath is 3/1 to steer the Craven Cottage club to promotion back into the Premier League at the first attempt, but is seeking a proven second-tier striker to fire his side to glory. Fulham are understood to have come back to Leeds with a second offer for McCormack, now that he has made his desire to leave official.
