Haydock Preview: It’s time to get Rich Again

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Rich Again has caught the eye in his last two runs and looks decent value to score an overdue success in the 6f handicap at Haydock today (3.20).

The James Bethell trained gelding has just one win to his name, with that success coming on the all-weather surface at Lingfield back in December 2012 off a mark of 60.

However, he has posted a number of solid efforts to finish in the frame off higher marks, including when an excellent 3/4 length second of 14 to Ambitious Boy over course and distance last August.

The five-year-old ran off a rating of 63 that day, and now gets into this off the same mark having been dropped a couple of pounds by the handicapper since the start of the season.

That gives the son of Amadues Wolf every chance at the weights, and he comes into the contest having shaped better than the bare result in two runs at Carlisle last month.

On both occasions Rich Again has stayed on nicely without being unduly knocked about, and he should now be spot on to do himself justice in a race which should be run to suit.

Evervescent is another horse on a long losing run, but the Graham McPherson trained gelding has been found a nice opportunity to get back in the winners’ enclosure in the 1m 2f hanciap that opens proceedings (2.20).

The five-year-old has not scored since landing a juvenile contest at this venue back in May 2011, but having started life off in handicaps off 85 is now running off just 70.

The son of Elnadim ran very well on seasonal reappearance to finish a close up third of to Choral Festival over 1m 2f at Newbury, and backed that up with a 3/4 length third of to Ifan over the same distance at Brighton.

Evervescent then seemed to to find 1m 4f too far when fifth of 12 to Flying Power at Leicester last time out, but shaped as if still in form and will appreciate the drop back down to 1m 2f in what looks the weakest race he has contested all season.

In the 1m handicap (5.20), Hunters Creek looks the one to beat now dropped down in grade.

The John Gosden trained colt had some useful form to his name as a juvenile, and ran really well on seasonal reappearance when seventh of 13 to Sudden Wonder in a valuable sales race at Newmarket .
The son of Cape Cross then finished a solid fourth of five to Pinzolo in a listed race at headquarters, beoire encoutring trouble in-running when finishing down the field in the class 2 Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The drop down to class 3 company looks sure to see Hunters Creek in a better light, and the three-year-old’s current mark of 95 looks exploitable on the pick of his form.
