Brighton Preview: Iseemist poised to follow-up

Iseemist is in the form of her life at present and looks up to defying a penalty in the 6f feature sprint at Brighton today (3.05).

The John Gallagher trained filly has won three times this season, including over course and distance, and posted a career best effort last time out when beating Desert Command by a length at Epsom off a mark of 79.

The daughter of Verglas travelled ominously well throughout that contest, before only having to be ridden out to score with far more in hand than the winning margin suggests.

It’s no surprise to see connections turn Iseemist out quickly under a 6lb penalty before the handicapper has his say, and that rise is partly negated by the 5lb claim of promising young jockey Louis Steward.
In effect, Iseemist is now just 1lb higher than when winning at Epsom and the three-year-old’s proven form at the track is a major plus.

In the 5f contest that opens proceedings (2.05), Diamond Solitaire is a fascinating contender on handicap debut.

The Tim Jarvis trained filly has been well beaten in three starts over 6f, but has shown plenty of speed on the last two occasions before weakening late on.

The form of the first of those when eighth of 10 to Penny Drops at Lingfield has worked out extremely well.

The winner has gone on to be placed in two listed contest and is now rated 93, and the second, third, fourth and sixth home have all come out and won since.

That is strong form in the context of this weak looking class 6 contest, and makes the unexposed Diamond Solitaire look potentially well-treated off an opening mark of just 53 now dropped to the minimum trip.
Gabrial The Terror showed improved form when opening his account over course and distance three starts back, and looks the answer to the 1m 2f handicap (3.35).

The gelding readily beat Cherry Princess by 1 3/4 lengths, and then ran really well off today’s mark of 68 when third to April Ciel at Chepstow.

The David Simcock trained son of Kheleyf then appeared not to handle the track when finishing just seventh of eight in a class 4 contest at Chester last time out, and the drop back into class 5 company and return to this venue is likely to see the four-year-old in a far better light.

3.05: Iseemist (NAP)
3.35: Gabrial The Terror
