Beverley Preview: Mey can Blossom again

| 21.07.2014

Mey Blossom has a terrific record at Beverley and looks up to defying a penalty in the 5f handicap at the Yorkshire track this evening (6.45).
The Richard Whittaker trained mare took advantage of a drop in the weights to land her fourth win over course and distance six days ago when showing a nice turn of foot to readily beat Lucky Mark by 1/2 a length.

That was a nine-year-old’s first win since scoring over course and distance last May off a mark of 57, and a 6lb penalty means that she is now running off that rating.

It gives her every chance of following up, especially as the daughter of Captain Rio went on to be placed three times last season of marks as high as 63.

Another plus is that Mey Blossom has bagged a good draw in stall 2, and with George Chaloner in the saddle taking 3lb off her back, everything looks in place for a huge run.
Mr McLaren has a progressive profile and could well have got in lighty on handicap debut in the 7f contest (7.45).

The David O’Meara trained gelding came good at the second time of asking when easily winning a 6f maiden at Hamilton by 3 1/2 lengths, and then improved again last time out when upped to 7f and finishing runner-up to Top Of The Glas in a classified contest at Newcastle.

Mr McClaren stayed on well in the latter to go down by just a length, and it was an effort which suggested the son of Royal Applause had plenty more to offer and could potentially be far better than his opening mark of 76.

In the 1m 2f handicap that closes the card (8.45), the Mick Easterby trained Warlu Way drops into class 5 company for the first time in his career and is weighted to take all the beating.

The seven-year-old was last successful in a class 4 contest at Carlisle last June off a mark of 85, and now gets into this class 5 affair off just 74.

That is 11lb lower than when last successful and gives Warlu Way a huge chance from a handicapping perspective.

The son of Sakhee also comes into the contest after shaping as if coming back to form when an eye-catching fourth of 11 to Bishop Castle at York 10 days ago, and this looks a golden opportunity for Warlu Way to return to winning ways.

6.15: Elizabeth Flynn
6.45: Mey Blossom (NAP)
7.15: Vale Mentor
7.45: Mr McLaren
8.15: Telegraphy
8.45: Warlu Way (NB)
