Ayr Preview: It’s time to Spiceupyourlife

Published:

Trainer Richard Fahey has been in great form of late, and Spiceupyourlife looks decent value to provide him with another winner in the 7f handicap at Ayr today (3.30).

The filly had some decent form as a juvenile, winning a 6f maiden at Redcar by three lengths before finishing a solid eighth of 17 to the now 109-rated Aeolus in a decent nursery at York.

The daughter of Sakhee’s Secret was then well-beaten on unsuitable soft ground on reappearance at Chester, before getting back to winning ways when landing a 7f handicap at Beverley by a cosy 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 70.

Spiceupyourlife then ran too freely last time out at Musselburgh when stepped up to a mile, and will appreciate the drop back to 7f and quicker ground she now encounters.

The three-year-old’s current mark of 76 certainly looks exploitable, especially with the talented George Chaloner in the saddle taking off 3lb, and this looks a nice opportunity for Spiceupyourlife to get back into the winners’ enclosure.

In the 1m handicap (4.00), Cono Sur is weighted to take all the beating after bouncing back to form when runner-up last time out.

The Ruth Carr trained gelding kept on well to be beaten 4 1/2 length by Rasselas in a class 5 contest at Carlisle after racing wide throughout, and gets into this lower grade class 6 affair off 1lb lower.

That gives the seven-year-old every chance of going one better, especially as Cono Zur’s current mark of 57 is 9lb lower than when last successful.

Mark Johnston is another trainer in terrific form, and his Crafted looks thrown-in under a penalty in the 7f contest that closes the card (5.30).

The gelding is a progressive sort who made all at Catterick last week to slam The Dukerrer by 3 3/4 lengths.

Given the manner of that succes, it’s no surprise to see Crafted turned out quickly under a 6lb penalty before the handicapper has his say.

It’s also interesting that connections have employed the services of Ahmad Al Subousi to partner Crafted, as the young rider’s 7lb claim wipes out the penalty and effectively means that the three-year-old is 1lb lower than when bolting up five days ago.
