Brighton Preview: Interception will be hard to catch

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Interception has shaped with bags of promise in two runs this season and looks to have been found a golden opportunity to get back in the winners’ enclosure in the 7f handicap at Brighton today (3.10).

The David Lanigan trained filly had a progressive profile last season, finishing runner-up on reappearance before completing a hat-trick of wins.

The daughter of Raven’s Pass showed a good turn of foot on each occasion, and is just 3lb higher than when last scoring over 6f at Kempton.

That gives the four-year-old every chance at the weights, and Interception comes into this weak looking class 4 contest on the back of two eye-catching starts this season.

In the first of those, Interception didn’t get the clearest of runs before staying on to finish a highly creditable fifth of 14 to Living The Life in a class 2 contest over 7f at Lingfield.

Interception then endured another nightmare run last time out at Lingfield, before staying on under hands and heels to finish third behind Born To Surprise in a stronger looking contest than today’s.

Both those runs suggested that Interception was a winner waiting to happen, and with Lanigan saddling a much welcomed winner at Windsor last night she looks the one they all have to beat.

In the 1m 2f handicap (3.40), Cravat looks sure to go well in the hands of the ultra talented Oisin Murphy.

The gelding cashed-in on his falling mark to score on the all-weather at Lingfield back in March, and won in good style on the turf over a mile at Haydock two starts back when readily beating Docofthebay by 1 1/4 lengths off a mark of 68.

Although now running off 74, Cravat has won off as high as 91 in the past and taking into account Murphy’s 3lb claim the five-year-old still looks well-treated on the pick of his form.

Another horse that looks well-weighted is Gypsy Rider who runs in the 7f handicap (4.40).

The Richard Curtis trained gelding last scored when landing a 7f handicap at this venue last July when running on strongly to get up and beat Hawk Moth by a neck off a mark of 53.

Since then Gypsy Riderhas posted some really solid efforts to make the frame, and has shaped far better than the bare result in his last two starts when encountering trouble in-running.

The five-year-old now gets into this contest off a 1lb lower mark than when last successful after being given a 90 day break to freshen up, and the fact that Gypsy Rider’s last success came after a 189 day absence suggests that the son of Ishiguru will not be found wanting through lack of fitness.
