Roy looks to have a great Chance in Crabbie’s Grand National
Published:Chance Du Roy has an impressive record over the Aintree fences and looks to have major claims of further enhancing it in the Crabbie’s Grand National.
The gelding is one of four remaining entries in the race for trainer Philip Hobbs, and is currently a 40/1 chance with Coral to land the spoils.
The 10-year-old has won six of his 21 races over fences, with the last of those successes coming in the Becher Handicap Chase over the National fences back in December.
He raced on the heels of the leaders that day, and after being three lengths down as they jumped the last only had to be driven out on the long run in to beat baby Run by a length off a mark of 135.
Prior to that, his three runs over the unique fences had seen him finish second to Always Waining in the 2012 running of the Topham, fall at the 14th in the Grand Sefton Chase in the same year when travelling well in third position, and finish a fair ninth of 29 to Trio D’Alene in last year’s Topham Chase.
That experience over the National fences is a major weapon in his armoury, and he looks to have a lovely racing weight off 10st 6lb.
He also shaped well in his latest start when fourth of seven to Restless Harry at Ascot, where he travelled best for much of the race before weakening late on after paying the price for a swift move to the front as they left the back straight.
That should have put him spot on for the big race on Saturday, April 5th, and his age is another positive as five 10-year-olds have won the race since 2003.
At the odds on offer he looks excellent each-way value.
