Where Is The Money Going? Punters pick their Champion Tent
Concerns over an injured hoof have obviously been brushed under the carpet in terms of My Tent Or Yours, as he is the horse being backed to win the Champion Hurdle.
There is now a strong possibility that My Tent Or Yours may even go off favourite for the feature race of the opening day of the Festival, as his Champion Hurdle odds have shortened from 4/1 to 3/1.
Hurricane Fly is still slight favourite at 11/4, with The New One the friendless member of the market leaders, drifting to 7/2, having been ante-post favourite for the most part in recent weeks.
It should be remembered that My Tent Or Yours beat The New One over Christmas, but the fact that he has never won at Cheltenham does have to be regarded as a concern.
In terms of big single bets, Coral have taken a £4,000 each-way wager on Shotgun Paddy winning the National Hunt Chase, which has understandably shortened his price for victory from 5/1 to 9/2.
The step up to 4m shouldn’t pose any problems and the fact he is already a steady jumper, alongside being partnered by Derek O’Connor, one of the top amateur options, only boost his claims further.
In opposition, Shutthefrontdoor also continues to be supported, although it remains to be seen whether first-time cheekpieces will have the desired effect.
One horse that it may pay to back now is Irving in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, who remains unchanged at 4/1 despite a consistent stream of support.
Irving is still to taste defeat in his four starts since joining the yard of Paul Nicholls, with the last two successes coming in Grade 2 company.
His big danger appears to be Willie Mullins’ Vautour, who is also unbeaten this season and the highest-rated entrant in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
