West Ham and New Zealand centre back Winston Reid is a rumoured summer target for Liverpool, who are 5/2 chances for the Premier League title.

The 25-year-old is reportedly upset – according to the Sunday tabloids’ gossip columns – that he has not been brought into defence by Sam Allardyce after shaking off an ankle problem.

At one stage over the festive period, injuries and suspensions meant the Hammers had no fit senior options for the heart of their backline. Reid is under contract in east London until 2015.

Coral recently reported that his Upton Park teammate Mohamed Diame may also be interesting Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, as he seeks to bolster midfield this summer. Tightening up the defence is also a priority at Liverpool in the transfer window.

Despite being free-scoring, the Anfield outfit have conceded 15 more goals than Premier League leaders Chelsea, who have the best rear-guard record this term. A case in point was the Reds’ last outfit where they beat Cardiff City in the Welsh capital 6-3.

Luis Suarez, massive odds-on favourite to win the Premier League Golden Boot at 1/50, hit a hat-trick in the rout. Strike partner Daniel Sturridge (a 16/1 to overtake his teammate and be top-scorer) was also on target in south Wales.

Since sustaining an ankle injury in November, Reid has made just one start and four substitute appearances for West Ham, who are 10/1 to be relegated. Big Sam has opted to pair James Collins and academy graduate James Tomkins at the back.

Reid joined the Hammers from Danish Superliga side Midtjylland in 2010 for an undisclosed and has made almost 100 appearances for them. Liverpool’s current centre back pairing is Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger, but Rodgers has used other players – most notably summer signing Mamadou Sakho – this season.

Up next for Rodgers’ Reds is a midweek home game with relegation-threatened Sunderland. Back Liverpool at 2/11 and Suarez, who has scored seven in six appearances against the Black Cats, at 3/1 for a brace of better here.
