Inter in for United’s unsettled striker Hernandez

Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez is a rumoured target for Inter Milan in the summer, while the Serie A giants could offer their prized youngster Mateo Kovacic in exchange as a makeweight.

The Red Devils (odds of 8/1 for a Champions League place), who are currently outside of the top four and look likely to finish there for the first time since 1991, are set for a summer transfer shakeup in order to desperately reaffirm their trophy-chasing status.

United’s Mexican striker is on the radar of many clubs, following reports he is unsettled at Old Trafford after being used very much as a backup since joining in 2010. It’s very difficult not to feel sorry for a player with so much talent, patience and enthusiasm.

Despite his lack of game-time – he has started just 81 of his 142 matches for United in all competitions – his goalscoring record is impressive. In each of the seasons since joining (besides this one) he has managed to net 10 times or more in the league from the few games played.

This term, however, new boss David Moyes has used the 25-year-old even more sparingly. ‘Little Pea’ has started only four times in the league, out of his 16 appearances, and scored just two.

Mexico national boss Miguel Herrera recently claimed that Hernandez was frustrated by his lack of game-time, but both Inter and the player’s agent have denied reports of a transfer in the summer.

“I think these are just rumours. I have no news of Inter, and Manchester United have not let me know anything about a possible offer,” Chicharito’s agent Eduardo Hernandez said.

“The same goes for the other teams that have been linked to my client, to date there is nothing concrete.”

However, if Hernandez does follow his current club captain Nemanja Vidic to Inter at the end of the season, United could get long-term target Kovacic in exchange.

The 19-year-old Croatia international midfielder was being followed by the Red Devils whilst at his former side Dinamo Zagreb, but moved to Milan in January 2013 instead.

United’s other long-serving player Patrice Evra, meanwhile, is also linked with a move to join Vidic at Inter.
