This trio are prone to trigger Cheltenham Fallers offer

With Coral offering money back on all horses that either fall, unseat their rider or are brought down at the Cheltenham Festival, a safety net is in place for those horses that are fancied to perform well, but with the niggling down about their jumping.

Looking back across the last five Festivals, seven per cent of runners have failed to finish because of one of the above-mentioned methods and three horses stand out as being suited to the promotion this year.

Wilde Blue Yonder is 16/1 to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, but he would arguably be a single-figure price if he could perfect jumping the final obstacle in his races.

Alan King’s five-year-old would be arriving at Cheltenham on a four-race win streak had he not exited at the final flight on both of his last two starts.

General Miller in 2010 is the only horse in the last five years to have fallen or unseated in the Supreme and the Ascot contest that Wilde Blue Yonder tackled in February has been won by some talented runners in recent years.

Sprinter Sacre hacked up on the bridle in 2011 and Wilde Blue Yonder was on track to do something similar until his error.

Although still holding an entry in the World Hurdle, it is the Coral Cup that is the most likely engagement for Cotton Mill, who has developed a bad habit of falling at the Festival in recent years.

He was leading the Neptune that was eventually won by Simonsig when unseating his rider two out in 2012 and then fell at the last when backtracking in the County Hurdle last year.

These are the only two times that he has failed to finish in his career and should the pressure of the Festival get to him again, punters to have backed him at 25/1 for the Coral Cup will get losing stakes refunded.

Finally, Wishfull Thinking has developed a bit of a pattern at the last four Festivals, of staying up one year but falling the next.

If this pattern is to continue in 2014, he is due to either fall or unseat, with Philip Hobbs confirming that the horse will run in the Champion Chase, in which he finished third last year.

He may attract some each-way support again at 25/1.
