Van Gaal and De Boer links reduce chances of Sherwood seeing out deal

Louis van Gaal has been especially heavily linked with taking over at Tottenham this summer and this seems the obvious reason that Tim Sherwood is odds-on at 1/2 not to be in charge on the opening day of next season.

Sherwood has made an impressive start to his managerial tenure at White Hart Lane, taking 20 points out of an available 27 to ensure Spurs are only three points outside of the top four after 25 games.

Sherwood has a contract until the end of next season, but even he does guide Tottenham to a top-four finish, this may not be enough to see him stay beyond this campaign.

Van Gaal is already indicated that he will be stepping down as the Holland national team manager after this summer’s World Cup and has intimated that he wants to manage in the Premier League before he retires.

Given that Van Gaal has won league titles with all of the four club sides that he has managed, Spurs would be foolish to turn down the chance to take him on as manager.

He additionally has a great track record as a coach and given the quality in the Spurs squad at present, his skills could be a big asset to the development of the likes of Andros Townsend, Harry Kane and Nabil Bentaleb.

If Van Gaal is not in charge next season, an alternate option for Tottenham appears to be Frank de Boer.

De Boer is well on the way to a fourth successive Dutch title with Ajax and has previously highlighted Spurs and Liverpool as English clubs he would one day like to manage.

It is 6/4 that Sherwood is still in charge on the opening day of the 2014/15 season.
