Talks have begun on Van Persie returning to Arsenal in summer
Robin van Persie is 7/4 to leave Manchester United this summer and the reasons for taking this price have been substantially enhanced by the unveiling of the news that talks with Arsenal are already underway.
Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has revealed a number of things as ‘fact’ in a recent podcast, with the main development being that Van Persie’s agent Kees Vos met with Arsene Wenger in London on January 28th.
In the meeting Vos indicated that not only was Van Persie unhappy at Old Trafford, but also that his wish was to return to Arsenal.
Wenger also indicated that he would be more than willing to have Van Persie back, while it was revealed that David Moyes would not stand in the way of the Dutchman leaving.
This all looks extremely positive towards a move at the end of the season, although there is still the small matter to solve on the two clubs agreeing on a fee for Van Persie’s signature.
It is almost certain that Man Utd will want at least the £22.5m they paid for Van Persie back in the summer of 2012 and possibly even more, despite the fact that the striker is now 30.
If there is a stumbling block, then this will be it, as it is far from normal for Wenger to buy players of Van Persie’s age, especially for this type of money.
As a possible replacement, Edinson Cavani’s name has cropped up as a potential option and the chances of the Uruguayan signing would be boosted if PSG continue to be linked with Mario Balotelli.
With Nemanja Vidic already confirming he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, with Inter Milan a heavily touted destination, Van Persie could be the next absentee in a Man Utd summer clear out.
