Sherwood targeting another Spurs shut-out in hostile Ukraine

Spurs, second-favourites for the Europa League with Coral at 8/1, have enjoyed eight successive victories in this season’s competition – and set a new record along the way. They have kept clean sheets in all four away games.

Back Tim Sherwood’s side to shut Ukrainian club Dnipro out at 5/2 and make further history here. A win to nil is also attractive and even better value at 17/4.

Tottenham’s strong defensive displays on the road may be impacted by the resting of key players, however.

Goalie Hugo Lloris, right back Kyle Walker and centre half Younes Kaboul are among six first-team regulars that have stayed at home.

In light of that, Spurs are 19/10 for this last 32 first leg clash, but odds-on favourites to advance at 2/7. Hosts Dnipro, meanwhile, are 6/4 to win this match. It’s 23/10 on a draw.

A series of violent protests in Ukraine, specifically political unrest in the capital, have resulted in Dynamo Kiev’s home leg with Valencia being moved to Cyprus. UEFA officials have confirmed that this game will go ahead, however.

Managerial novice Sherwood must pit his wits against former Tottenham head coach Juande Ramos, who won the League Cup during his year-long stint at White Hart Lane between 2007 and 2008.

Ramos has the odd name in Dnipro ranks that may be familiar to English audiences.

Former Blackburn Rovers striker Nikola Kalinic may lead the attack. If punters are prepared to overlook the struggles this Croatian endured at Ewood Park, then back him at 2/1 to score anytime.

Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, who netted a stunning opener on international duty at Wembley in World Cup qualifying, almost joined Liverpool in the January transfer window.

Dnipro have held onto him for now though, but odds of 8/1 on him scoring first and 11/4 at anytime here are tempting.

If it’s away goals you fancy, then punters must look elsewhere than Emmanuel Adebayor. Despite a purple patch since Sherwood brought him back into the fold, he has not travelled along with Mousa Dembele and Aaron Lennon.

The burden may fall on stuttering Spaniard Roberto Soldado. Tottenham have 10 goals from him for their £26m outlay so far, but five of those have come in the Europa League.

Soldado hit a hat-trick in the last outing in this competition – a 4-1 home demolition of Anzhi Makhachkala, who have fallen on hard times since the bottom fell out of their investment.

Back striker Soldado to repeat that feat in Dnipropetrovsk at 33/1 or take 7/4 on him in the anytime market.
