Man Utd keen on Kagawa trade for Dortmund duo
Manchester United are set to raid Borussia Dortmund again this summer in search of much needed new talent and are reportedly willing to use Shinji Kagawa as a makeweight.
It is claimed Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan are high up on David Moyes’ transfer list after United are prepared to give the Scot all the money needed to revive their fortunes.
The Red Devils are down in seventh in the Premier League this term, and being 11 points behind fourth-placed Liverpool with 12 games to go, a Champions League position does not look very promising.
Coral are offering 7/1 for the reigning league champions to finish in a Champions League place, and Moyes knows that he has a lot of making up to do in the summer if he is to see out his six-year contract.
Gundogan has been a target for United for a couple of seasons now, and with his Dortmund contract running out in 2015, manager Jurgen Klopp knows that he does not want a repeat of the Robert Lewandowski situation.
Poland’s star striker has signed a pre-contact with Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, and will make a free transfer to the Allianz Arena in the summer.
Germany international Gundogan is a fantastic young central midfielder who would place well in the United team. The 23-year-old has been out injured all season with a back problem, but is still thought to be a top target for Moyes. His father has also stated that he will be open to offers.
Last season the playmaker managed to provide three goals and as many assists in 28 Bundesliga games for his side, and with the likes of Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini continuously failing to show any consistency when fit, United look set to make a move.
Gundogan’s clubmate Reus is another target for the Manchester side. The attacking midfielder has been in superb form this season so far, and has managed to both score and assist eight times in the Bundesliga.
At just 24, the 19-capped Germany player would be a real coup to compliment an already outstanding array of Man Utd attacking talent, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and new signing Juan Mata already in their ranks.
A front four involving the above would really please Moyes who is desperate to prove that his debut United season is just a work in progress. However, the real weakness lies in the middle of the park with a severe lack of creativity.
As well as Gundogan, Munich’s Toni Kroos has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Another wonderful young German midfielder, the 24-year-old would be ideal alongside Michael Carrick.
Although Kroos has only been used sparingly by Pep Guardiola this season, he has still managed to score a goal and assist four times in the league.
Kagawa is touted to be involved in any deal that would see either or both Borussia stars leave the club. The £16m Japan international was expected to be a real hit when he moved to Man Utd two seasons ago, but has completely failed to adapt and quite often has found himself on the bench or deployed out of position.
