Back Leeds to bury Yeovil deeper in Championship relegation mire
Leeds United will be looking to put manager Brian McDermott’s was he/wasn’t he sacked debacle behind them and make a spring surge towards the Championship play-off places.
In his absence, the Whites thumped Huddersfield 5-1 and can be confident of building on that result when they travel to Somerset side Yeovil Town on Saturday lunchtime.
With six wins and a draw from seven league meetings for United, this is an away banker for punters at 23/20.
Gary Johnson’s Glovers have history totally against them, yet are only 12/5 to record their first ever win over the Whites because of inconsistency. It’s 23/10 for a draw.
McDermott has seen Leeds largely make heavy weather of handling games against struggling sides.
United may have beaten Charlton Athletic – in spite of twice surrendering a lead – and edged Bolton Wanderers on their travels, but lost at Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday.
Ross McCormack, who McDermott recently made captain, bagged a decisive brace in the reverse fixture with Yeovil. Another 2-0 Whites win here is 11/1.
Championship top scorer McCormack is evens to score at anytime here and a more enticing 4/1 to net two or more. He has four goals in his last two matches.
McCormack is also an 18/1 shot to hit another hat-trick after he took the match ball home with him last time out against the Terriers.
Town meanwhile are rock bottom of the second-tier and six points from safety. Johnson’s charges also have the worst home scoring record in the entire Football League.
Yeovil fans have celebrated a paltry eight goals at Huish Park in Championship matches this term. The Glovers are thus 2/1 to fail to score.
Only Bournemouth and second bottom Barnsley have fewer clean sheets than Yeovil in the division. Leeds’ own shut-out record is pretty poor too, so punters should avoid that market.
Johnson has not seen Town win at home in league action since the start of December. United have only one away win in their last five too – it’s six if you include the humbling FA Cup exit at Rochdale.
Leeds have the it-factor in McCormack, however, and punters should back him to fill his boots again at Yeovil.
