Inter offer Evra exit from Man Utd sinking ship

Manchester United left back Patrice Evra is a wanted man and is set to run down his deal that ends in the summer.

Inter Milan technical director Piero Ausilio was in attendance at the Emirates for the recent goalless draw between Manchester United and Arsenal, with reports suggesting his focus was on the Frenchman.

The Italian cub have also been linked with Nemanja Vidic after the United captain announced that he would leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Both Evra and Vidic were brought to Man Utd in January 2006, and it is a possibility the duo will move to the same club once more. The two have since become a key part of the Red Devils’ successes over that period, but the 32-year-olds are now seemingly past their peak.

United are going through a tough stage at the moment especially in the league, and it is rumoured David Moyes is planning a clear-out of older players. With the Manchester club seemingly in decline, perhaps it is the right time for Evra to jump ship with the club having odds of just 7/1 to finish in the top four.

At present, Inter have Yuto Nagatomo, Juan Jesus and the Cristian Chivu amongst their ranks, but with the latter also out of contract at the end of June, they will need to bring in a replacement with similar experience.

Inter play a three-man central defence with wing backs on either side, so although it is a favoured position for Evra, will he still have the legs for it as he turns 33 before his United contract ends?

If Italy is his preferred choice, it seems that he will have to make do without Champions League football next season, as Walter Mazzarri’s side are 11 points off the qualifying places – only the top-three sides from Serie A can play in Europe’s elite club competition.

Closer to home, the Red Devils regular might fancy the chance to play for one of PSG or former club Monaco (first and second in Ligue 1 respectively).

Evra joined United from the 2004 Champions League finalists, so will know the club well having spent four seasons with Monaco. Les Rouges et Blanc currently have the likes of loanee Aymen Abdennour, Layvin Kurzawa, Uwa Elderson Echiejile and Eric Abidal who can play in the left back position, however.

French youth international Lucas Digne and former Barcelona player Maxwell stand in the way if Evra were to join PSG, but with the club’s Qatari owners looking for European domination very soon, they will need all the experience possible. He was once a part of the PSG youth academy but was let go in his late teens.
