Barca, Real Madrid and Roma combine for price-boost home-win treble

| 05.02.2014

Home victories are fairly consistent in Europe’s top leagues this season, with 46 per cent of Premier League games won by the home team and this figure only marginally climbs to 47 per cent in both Italy and Spain.

The biggest clubs tend to represent home bankers more than most and it is Real Madrid, Barcelona and Roma, with only three home defeats between them this season, that combine for Coral’s latest price boost treble.

The odds on all three winning their respective cup games in 90 minutes have been enhanced to 3/1, with some more detail on each below.

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid

In terms of the tie, history favours Real Madrid in this Cope del Rey semi-final, as they have qualified in 10 of the 15 previous showdowns with neighbours Atletico in this competition.

And if they are to do so again, it is not massively bold to suggest that a victory at home would be a big help.

The only blip on Real’s Bernabeu record in 16 games this season is the 1-0 La Liga reverse to Atletico, although they have been especially dominant of late, winning each of the last six at home without conceding a goal.

Both teams have also scored in each of Atletico’s last three away games, which suggests that as good as they are at defensive organisation and pressing, they will struggle to keep Real out again.

Atletico have never won three consecutive matches against Real either, which intimates that their bubble may burst here, while the injury to David Villa is a blow.

Cristiano Ronaldo is almost certain to play for Real, ahead of a La Liga suspension, and can be backed at 4/7 to score at any time in the 90 minutes. Ronaldo has scored in every Bernabeu appearance since the aforementioned defeat to Atletico in September.

Barcelona v Real Sociedad

Looking at the other Cope del Rey semi final and although Barcelona’s 15-game winning streak at the Nou Camp in all competitions was ended by Valencia last time, it is nigh on impossible making a case for lightning striking twice against Real Sociedad.

Barcelona have not suffered back-to-back home defeats since 1998 when losing in La Liga to Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, while Sociedad have been beaten on 12 consecutive Nou Camp visits.

Furthermore, Sociedad have lost all four away games against teams currently above them in the La Liga standings and not only have they been beaten, they have conceded at least four in each fixture.

Therefore, Barcelona scoring over 3.5 goals in the match must be considered an attractive price at 13/10.

Roma v Napoli

Over in Italy and it is Roma facing Napoli in the Coppa Italia, having won all of the last three meetings between the pair in the competition and losing just three of the last 16.

Roma have also already beaten Napoli 2-0 at home in Serie A this season, alongside being on a five-game winning streak heading into this fixture.

Meanwhile, Napoli have only triumphed in one of their last four on the road and were thumped 3-0 by mid-table Atalanta in their last outing.

Given that Roma have already won 1-0 twice at home in the Coppa Italia this season, another repeat of this scoreline holds some appeal at 13/2.
