Scottish football punter scoops £89,000 from a £10 bet

| 14.01.2014

Football punters across the nation hit the jackpot over the weekend, as British bookmakers suffered their heaviest ever losses. One lucky punter, who reaped the rewards, was an unemployed Scotsman, who scooped £67,000. The customer who wishes to remain anonymous, placed the bet at the Coral shop in Prestonpans, East Lothian, and correctly picked nine teams all to win to nil on the Winning Ways coupon. However, his luck didn’t end there, as Coral were offering a 33% bonus on their Winning Ways coupon to those who included nine or more selections in their accumulator, adding an extra £22,000 to his windfall.

Another customer, John Sinclair from Acklington, Northumberland, netted £40,600, after placing a £2 accumulator bet on Coral’s website with eighteen winning selections.

John Sinclair, rejoiced this afternoon, “It was my birthday on Saturday and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better present. We’ve just had our second baby and thanks to this amazing win I will be able to pay off some of my mortgage and other debts and make life more comfortable. To be honest I’m still in total shock”.

Brixton customer, Serge Ndjali Yalongo, was another punter celebrating this weekend’s football results, after he turned a £1 bet into £19,600 by selecting 16 winning results.

The 36-year-old, hotel worker said, “I can’t believe it, I have never even dreamed of a winning such a large amount of money and it will certainly be put to good use”.

Nicola McGeady, Coral spokeswoman, said, “These customers are representative of thousands more across the country who won life-changing amounts of money this weekend. With all the most popular teams, bar Cardiff, winning across all the English and Scottish divisions we were doomed. No bookie in Britain will have escaped unscathed and small staking football punters everywhere have taken bookmakers for over £25 million”.
