Goalfest on the cards at St James’ Park as Newcastle host Man City

Manchester City have only won four of their 10 Premier League away matches and they can drop points at a boisterous St James’ Park on Sunday.

Hosts Newcastle have only lost two at home all season and they should be backed in the double chance market at odds of 23/20.

The two clubs met in the North-East in the Capital One Cup in October and it was the home side who were the better side in 90 minutes, only succumbing to two extra time goals in an eventual 2-0 defeat.

Alan Pardew has done a great job this season, brushing off the arrival of Joe Kinnear to lead his side to eighth in the Premier League.

Their 10 wins is the same total as those of Everton and Man Utd and only six teams have scored more goals than the Toon Army this season.

The main reason for their success has been a French revolution; all but three of their Premier League goals this season have been scored by Frenchmen.

Leading that charge have been Loic Remy (10 goals) and Yoan Gouffran (six).

Remy has made the most of his loan move from QPR and his pace and movement has troubled the very best defences this season; he has already scored against Everton, Chelsea and Spurs.

He has scored the first goal of the game on four occasions and is 15/2 to do so once again.

The home side do have injury worries, with ace goalkeeper Tim Krul and influential midfielder Yohan Cabaye both doubts after missing their FA Cup defeat to Cardiff last week.

With Mathieu Debuchy suspended, and Fabricio Coloccini and Ryan Taylor out injured, the Newcastle backline is looking somewhat threadbare and there should be little doubt that City will find the net.

Indeed their 10 away matches have featured 36 goals and over 2.5 goals – which has occurred in 13 of City’s last 16 on the road in the league – is an obvious 8/15 chance.

However six of their away matches in all competitions this season have seen the net bulge at least five times and, with the Newcastle defence weakened and Sergio Aguero back in contention, the 10/3 about that scenario is worth an interest.

City come into this match on the back of a 6-0 thrashing of West Ham in the Carling Cup, but as everyone knows, their best form has been at Eastlands.

They have beaten teams 4-0 (Newcastle), 5-0, 6-0 and 7-0, but away from home their biggest win is the 4-2 scoreline recorded against Fulham in December.

Indeed six of their 10 away games have seen either team win by a one goal margin and so the 19/20 about the total goals being odd also makes some appeal.
