Bookies suffer another £10 million football battering

| 27.01.2014

Britain’s bookmakers yesterday suffered a multi-million pound battering, for the second time in a fortnight, due to another almost unprecedented set of punter-friendly results on football.

Coral have reported that the top fourteen most popular teams in accumulator bets all won yesterday costing Britain’s high street betting shops over £10 million pounds, with online bookmakers losing many millions of pounds more.

“Two weeks ago we suffered the worst football losses in our history and lightning has effectively struck twice as yesterday’s losses were nearly as bad. Britain’s high street bookies lost over £10 million yesterday and the online losses will run into millions of pounds too. Every single one of the most popular teams won and once again thousands of betting shop customers have won four figure sums for less than a £10 stake”, said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

“Football punters have had the most incredible start to 2014 winning over £40 million from bookmakers in a fortnight. For bookmakers the only consolation is the fact that there are several months left in the season with a World Cup to follow, so there is plenty of time to use the many tales of punter success to attract even more customers and bets on football.”, added Clare.

One betting shop customer placed a £5 six-fold and won £62,370 in Eastfield, Scarborough. An online customer at placed two £1 twelve-folds and won £51,900. One of the successful bets included a correct score of Manchester City to win 4 v 2 against Watford.
