Arsenal can ease to shut-out win at homesick Villa

How depressing it must be to be an Aston Villa season ticket holder these days – few wins, hardly any goals and very little hope of getting a result when in-form Arsenal visit Villa Park on Monday.

Odds of 4/7 on an away win tell you all you need to know about the plight of the Villains at Villa Park and while even those short odds will be enough to tempt punters in, the stand out price in the fixture is the 7/4 that Arsenal win without conceding a goal.

Arsenal have won to nil on eight occasions in the league this season (as well as five times in the Champions League and against Tottenham in the FA Cup) and can notch up another shut-out victory against impotent Villa.

You can’t be backing a team with such a poor home record as Villa, even at 9/2 (the draw is 3/1), against anybody, never mind an Arsenal side that have won four games on the spin in all competitions.

Paul Lambert’s side are just five points above the drop zone and have accrued only eight points from their ten home league games – only Sunderland have posted a poorer record.

Villa have won just two of those ten games and have managed to score a meagre seven goals in front of their own fans.

That is the worst home attack in the division and having drawn six blanks in their ten home games, Villa will have their work cut out to find the net against stingy Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger’s side, who will return to the top of the table with a victory, have the best defensive record in the Premier League, letting in just 18 goals and keeping nine clean sheets, again the best record in the division.

Eight of those clean sheets have been accompanied by three points and with seven wins and a draw from their ten away games – again, that is the best record in the Premier League – Arsenal can make sure this game goes to form.
