Van Gerwen to reach semis through 180s, Lewis to do so with checkouts

The second batch of PDC World Darts Championships quarter finals may do well to be anywhere near as nerve jangling as the first, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t money to be made.

Peter Wright and Simon Whitlock both needed tie-breakers to progress 5-4 to the semi finals and now the pressure moves to Michael van Gerwen, Mark Webster, Adrian Lewis and James Wade to see which two players will join them.

Michael Van Gerwen to hit more 180s than Mark Webster @ 1/3

This may be Webster’s first ranking quarter final since April, but his advancement to this stage should come as no great surprise, bearing in mind he is a two-time semi finalist here.

With Phil Taylor out, Van Gerwen is the tournament favourite, but has little appeal at 1/12 to beat Webster in this first to five sets clash.

All of Webster’s three matches so far have gone to a deciding set and so backing him with a 3.5-set headstart looks a smart move at 4/5, while it is 9/1 that Van Gerwen wins 5/4.

However, the biggest banker looks to be the 1/3 that Van Gerwen registers the most 180s, given he scored 11 of them in five sets against Kevin McDine in the last 32 and more than Webster in the quarter finals.

Adrian Lewis v James Wade: Over 7.5 sets @ 11/10

These two have already met five times in 2013, with Wade leading the head-to-head 3-2. However, if the sequence is to continue in the year of no player beating the other in consecutive meetings, then Lewis will win this one.

Wade certainly looks the value call at a price of 21/10, with Lewis on offer at 4/11.

However, given how closely matched this pair are, the smarter money may be on the 11/10 that this match goes beyond 7.5 sets.

Other markets worth monitoring include the 8/11 for fewer than 17.5 180s, given that these two have registered the least maximums of all of the players left in the tournament and the 5/6 that Lewis’ highest checkout is 129 or higher.

By his own admission, the two-time champion is finishing well and he has had at least one checkout over 100 in each of his three matches thus far.
