Man Utd and Chelsea to lock horns over scintillating Seville starlet

| 16.12.2013

Manchester United are set to battle it out with Chelsea for the signature of Seville’s exciting left-back Alberto Moreno.

The 21-year-old has made two appearance for the Spain national side and has impressed since making the step up from Seville’s B squad to the first team.

Although fairly diminutive in height, the full-back is a solid defender but his attacking play is also a real strength.

Born and bred in Seville, the lure of playing at the very top level will surely prove too much before long and the Andalusian side will demand a large fee for such a promising young talent.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are also in the hunt, as Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been struggling at left-back in the absence of Marcelo.

However United will be keen to secure a replacement for Patrice Evra sooner rather than later.

Evra’s defensive frailties have been evident this year and the Frenchman is rumoured to be on his way to France in the January transfer window.

With Moyes’ pursuit of Leighton Baines proving unsuccessful, Moreno looks a tremendous ‘Plan B’.

Chelsea are also looking to replace the ageing Ashley Cole, despite Jose Mourinho’s talk of a new contract for the England international.

Ryan Bertrand – like Alex Buttner at Man Utd – has failed to prove himself as a suitable successor and the Portugeuse coach is known to be a big fan of Seville’s rising star.

Both clubs will have a transfer kitty to play with in January and Moreno’s signature is sure to prove one of the hottest of the window.

Luke Shaw is yet to play for the England senior team

The two clubs have also been linked with a high-profile move for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw after his fine start to the season.

The 18-year-old is a fantastic prospect however the Saints are determined to keep hold of him and being thrust into the spotlight of huge clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd may not be the ideal move at this stage of his career.
