Giant Llorente the answer as Wenger hunts for a bigger Arsenal

| 21.12.2013

Arsenal’s defeats at Napoli and Man City have forced Arsene Wenger to go on the hunt for a new striker in the Janaury transfer window – and that man is Fernando Llorente.

The Spaniard is currently unsettled at Juventus and, having also been linked with the Gunners at the start of the season, would fit in well with the current squad.

The pressure put on Olivier Giroud by Arsene Wenger has started to tell and the (younger) Frenchman needs a break.

He started the season on fire – he scored eight goals in his first 14 games for the North London side – but has now only notched twice in his last 10 matches.

Meanwhile Llorente, who has 24 caps and seven goals for Spain, has found life tough since moving to Italy in the summer.

Juventus are top of Serie A by five points but Llorente has only scored once in his last five games, whilst Carlos Tevez scored a hat-trick in his last match against Sassuolo.

The Argentinian has 10 since joining the club in the summer and there is an uneasy truce between the pair, with Tevez accused of saying that the 6 foot 5 inch-tall Llorente “would be better off playing basketball” before the season started.

Bet on Juventus to win the Europa League at 4/1

Although now making the starting line-up with more regularity, reports suggest that the former Athletic Bilbao star would welcome an approach from Arsenal.

Wenger has been an admirer of the player for some time and he would provide a timely fillip to a side whose early season dominance has started to wane.

Nicklas Bendtner – who hardly featured in a goalless loan spell at Juve last season – doesn’t offer enough off the bench and Wenger knows that the next month is a crucial time if they are to win their first Premier League title since 2003/4.
