Check all markets before backing Spurs to score 2+ goals with Anzhi

| 12.12.2013

Everything points to Tottenham scoring at least twice when hosting Anzhi in the Europa League, but uncovering the best way to make the maximum profit on this bet is not so straight forward.

Tottenham have scored at least twice in all seven of their Europa League outings so far this season and they have even managed to transfer their European scoring prowess to their domestic Premier League encounters of late.

Having only netted at least twice in two of their opening 12 Premier League games, they have done so in their last three on the bounce.

The obvious way to back Andre Villas-Boas’ men continuing their Europa League record is through the 2/9 in the Tottenham Total Goals market that they score 2+ goals.

However, there are a few alternate options that effectively represent the same bet, but offer slightly more generous odds.

The first is the 1/4 that Tottenham score over 1.5 goals against Anzhi, which they will obviously have to score two or more to land, with the same price available in the market on Spurs scoring 2+ goals.

But it is possible to almost double this price to 4/9, without taking too much of an additional risk.

The market in question is the first team to score two goals and Anzhi’s prospects of doing so before Tottenham look incredibly slim.

Anzhi have drawn blanks in seven of their last nine games in all competitions, it is 14 fixtures since they last netted twice and they have only managed to score twice or more in a road trip once since April. They have played 18 away games since.

Therefore, taking Tottenham’s odds of 4/9 to be the first team to score two goals looks the best price to side with.

In general, neither team will truly want to play this final Group K Europa League fixture, as both are already confirmed as qualifying for the knockout stages and Spurs cannot be caught as the group winners.

Tottenham are 2/9 to win and progress with a perfect record of 18 points. It is only Spurs and Red Bull Salzburg in Group C that have the ability to achieve this.

The fact that Anzhi have only triumphed in one of their last 16 away games does little to inspire confidence of an upset either.

For those interested, Anzhi are 14/1 to beat Tottenham, with the draw available to be backed at 9/2.

Given Anzhi’s difficulty scoring goals and knowledge that Tottenham have scored exactly twice in four successive games, alongside four in a row in the Europa League, the 2-0 home win does stand out massively in the correct score betting.

Tottenham are 24/5 to beat Anzhi 2-0 and this was also the score when the pair met earlier in Group K in Russia.
