Weimann to lead Villa to priceless win against Sunderland

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Sunderland have lost all four of their away games against teams in the bottom-half of the table and Aston Villa should be backed at Evens to continue the Wearsiders’ misery.

Paul Lambert’s side showed resolution to come back at West Brom on Monday as they were two-nil down inside 15 minutes.

However Lambert introduced Fabian Delph, Andreas Weimann and Gabriel Agbonlahor after an hour and they turned the game.

All were returning from injury and they injected more pace and directness into a team that had laboured in the first half.

Villa managed to win their last home game against Cardiff despite the trio’s absence but they add plenty to a team with a mixed record this season.

Bet on Aston Villa to win at Evens

Lambert’s side have beaten Man City, Cardiff and relegation rivals Norwich, however they have also lost comprehensively against a host of top-half sides.

Villa can draw on memories of their 6-1 victory over Sunderland last season where Agbonlahor and Weimann both scored.

Agbonlahor –who hasn’t yet scored this season – is 15/8 to score at anytime, whilst Weimann is 7/4 to score his third goal of the season.

Villa’s main goal threat for the past two years has been Christian Benteke.

The Belgian started the season with four in four games however he has since gone off the boil and, although he missed a chunk of the season through injury, he hasn’t scored in six games since September 14th.

Bet on Andreas Weimann to score anytime at 7/4

Gus Poyet’s Sunderland look a much more organised side since he took over and the Uruguayan has tried to encourage his team to be more patient in their build-up play.

They had won two of their previous three Premier League games before falling to defeat at Stoke last weekend but that doesn’t tell the full story.

Poyet was rightly apoplectic at Kevin Friend’s abhorrent decision to send Wes Brown off and they actually played well despite having 10 men for 60 minutes.

Bet on Aston Villa to win by one goal at 13/5

Brown would have been a big miss this weekend – he was immense during the 1-0 win over Man City – but his red card has been rescinded.

Along with the returning Lee Cattermole and Andrea Dossena, who both return from suspension, Poyet has a strong team to choose from and his side should not be under-estimated.

Villa have won two of their three victories this season by a solitary goal and they can be backed at 13/5 to gain a similarly narrow win this weekend.

The winning margin has been one goal in seven out of the nine matches where one of these sides has taken all three points.
