Tipping Tim looks at this weekends action.

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

It has been a momentous week in jump racing; AP McCoy reached 4000 career winners and Robert Thornton finally confirmed beyond doubt that Andrew Thornton is the best jockey in history called Mr Thornton.  The joint celebration at Towcester was kindly bankrolled by AP’s boss JP, and with names like that it’s only a matter of time before that little Irish kid writes a song about it.  Great times!

As much as I’d like to crack on with the National Hunt love in, the nap this week is Nicholascopernicus in the November Handicap on the flat at Doncaster (3.35).  Ed Walker’s gelding loves bad ground and is fresher than most after a midseason break.  He caught the eye last time after a cracking return at York and, at a double-figure price, he looks the value under in-form pilot Andrea Atzeni.

The next best is old favourite Tartiflette in the 1.50 Doncaster.  She travelled better than anything in a hot race at Ascot last time, before tiring late on and trailing home in her own time.  The handicapper kindly dropped her another two pounds for that, meaning that she is now only a pound higher than she was when winning this exact race in 2012.  It’s rare that all the stars align in such an orderly fashion in horse racing, and if Tartiflette doesn’t win tomorrow I will never watch Mystic Meg again.

For the Trixie I will take a chance on Miss Dashwood bouncing back to form in the 3.00 Doncaster.  Like many horses burdened with my money she ran like a hairy camel at Newmarket last time, but that race was won impressively by Astonishing and Astonishing had previously finished next to Miss Dashwood.  That suggests Miss Dashwood deserves another chance tomorrow.

Good luck with all your bets this weekend!
