War Command unchanged for 2,000 Guineas after Dewhurst success

War Command remains 10-1 fourth favourite with Coral for next year’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas, following his hard fought victory in this afternoon’s Dubai Dewhurst Stakes. The other Group One winner on Newmarket’s Future Champions Day card, Astaire, is 33-1 (from 50-1) for the colts’ Classic, while the Rockfel winner, Al Thakhira, earned a 12-1 quote for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas.

“War Command has definitely put his Phoenix Stakes defeat behind him with consecutive victories over seven furlongs, but the presence of 20-1 shot Cable Bay in second place ensured the Dewhurst winner’s Guineas price was unchanged,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“The Rockfel Stakes has been a decent guide to Classic success in recent years, and Al Thakhira could well add to that roll of honour on the evidence of a win that gives Frankie Dettori something else to look forward to in 2014,” added Stevens.
