Punters’ favourites head all star British Champions Day cast
Published:Group One winners Cirrus Des Aigles, Dawn Approach, Estimate, Talent and Maarek head the betting for their respective British Champions Day races, following the final declarations for the Ascot showpiece today.
Cirrus Des Aigles is 11-10 favourite with Coral for the Qipco Champion Stakes, for which his rivals include the Investec Derby winner Ruler Of The World at 9-1, the 2,000 Guineas winner Dawn Approach heads the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes market at 15-8, while the Oaks winner Talent is 10-3 favourite for the Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes.
The day will also see the return to acion of Her Majesty’s Gold Cup winner Estimate, the 2-1 favourite for the Qipco Long Distance Cup, while the recent Prix de l’Abbaye winner Maarek is 5-2 for a repeat success in the Sprint.
“Classic winners, multiple Group One winners, previous Champions Day winners, this Saturday has quality in abundance and more than lives up to its billing, and this should mean a bumper day in terms of betting turnover, with all five Group races extremely competitve and containing more than eight runners,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
Coral are also betting on how many British-trained winners there will be in the five Group races, and make two the 6-4 favourite, with three 5-2, and a blank 20-1.
“British runners may have drawn a blank on Arc day, but we’re not expecting a repeat on Saturday, although as befits Champions Day, there are high-class challengers from Ireland and France to ensure the home team won’t have things all their own way,” added Stevens.
