Emirates Flyer has the class to take Redcar Two-year-old Trophy

| 04.10.2013

Redcar’s valuable Two-year-old Trophy has attracted a large field as always and it is not short on quality this year. Many of the leading contenders have been competing in Group company including Emirates Flyer who was second to Kingman at Sandown last time out.

Although beaten only two lengths by John Gosden’s potential classic colt, he was flattered by his proximity to the winner. At Royal Ascot he was beaten only two and a half lengths by No Nay Never when finishing a respectable fifth in the Norfolk Stakes so he is clearly a decent horse in his own right.

Richard Hannon’s Anticipated has been running in many of the top two-year-old races and was beaten only a neck by stable mate Brown Sugar in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood. Gosden’s Ben Hall has also been highly-tried and has been running better than his form figures indicate.

The Listed Guisborough Stakes at 2.50 could go to former German Guineas winner Caspar Netscher. Having failed at stud, the horse was returned to David Simcock’s stable and almost got off to a winning start when second to Garswood at Goodwood.

Although twice beaten subsequently, he has done enough to show that he retains plenty of ability. Top Notch Tonto was pulled out of the Cambridgeshire last weekend and looks sure to go well whilst Taayel was highly regarded prior to his disappointing effort at Newmarket.

Whatever the fate of Caspar Netscher, Simcock is optimistic of opening the card with a winner when Erroneous bids to lose his maiden tag in the 1.40 race. The son of Footstepsinthesand was slowly away on his debut before making rapid headway to join the leaders in the home straight.

He eventually had to give best to the impressive Il Paparazzi but will know more about his job on Saturday. The danger is Luca Cumani’s Alisios who also showed plenty of promise when second in a decent maiden at Leicester and has the assistance of Kirsty Milczarek.

Selections: 1.40 Erroneous, 2.15 Ingleby Angel, 2.50 Caspar Netscher (nb), 3.30 Emirates Flyer (NAP), 4.00 Harbinger Lass, 4.35 Moccasin, 5.05 Perfect Pasture, 5.35 Lothair
