De Sousa can strike with Ihtimal in May Hill Stakes

| 12.09.2013

Ihtimal can continue Godolphin’s fine recent run when she lines up in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at 3.15. The daughter of Shamardal looked to have a race on her hands inside the two furlong marker but accelerated away from a decent sort in Midnite Angel.

She had previously taken on the colts in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot and finished third to Paul Cole’s Berkshire. She split two subsequent winners in Bunker and Somewhat and has much the best form in the race on Friday.

Godolphin are also represented by Majeyda who defeated Qawaasem by a neck at Sandown last time out. Majeyda was always getting the better of the argument and she may confirm the form despite being 2lbs worse off at the weights.

The dark horse of the race is Richard Hannon’s Lustrous who won her only start at Salisbury in fine style. The daughter of Champs Elysees has plenty of scope for improvement and could be the biggest threat to the favourite.

Times Up bids to repeat last year’s victory in the Doncaster Cup at 2.40 and the seven-year-old shaped encouragingly at York last month. He was up against two top stayers in Ahzeemah and Simenon and was not disgraced in third.

The ease in the going could bring about a big improvement in Biographer after finishing a moderate seventh at Newbury. He may just have needed that outing and will not have been suited by the slow early pace.

Trainer Olly Stevens struck on the opening day of the meeting with Lightning Thunder and will be hoping that Royal Ascot winner Extortionist can return to his best in the opening Flying Childers Stakes. He just got the verdict in the Windsor Castle Stakes but trailed home last in the Prix Robert Papin last time.

Wind Fire runs in the same colours and has been consistent whilst Ambiance and Thunder Strike must also have chances in a competitive renewal. James Fanshawe was out of luck with Seal Of Approval on Thursday but his Shwaiman is hard to oppose in the Mallard Handicap despite a 12lb rise in the weights.

Selections: 1.40 Extortionist, 2.10 Shwaiman, 2.40 Times Up (nb), 3.15 Ihtimal (NAP), 3.50 Be Ready, 4.25 Sir Reginald, 5.00 Zain Eagle
