Tipperary Friday Preview

There are two Listed races on Friday evening’s card at Tipperary. The five-furlong Abergwaun Stakes at 5.35 has attracted a strong field of 12.

Cape Of Approval is on a hat-trick for trainer Tommy Stack after winning twice at Cork. The son of Cape Cross was particularly impressive when beating Maarek by a length and a half in June with Red Dubawi three-quarters of a length further away in third.

Billy Lee rode him on that occasion and is in the saddle again on Friday. Red Dubawi meets him on 3lbs better terms but that may not be sufficient to reverse the placings.

The biggest threat to Cape Of Approval could come from Russian Soul who got within a length and a half of Sea Siren at Fairyhouse last month. He was turned out again quickly in the competitive Rockingham Handicap the following week and ran respectably under a big weight.

Indian Maharaja will be a hot favourite for the Coolmore Canford Cliffs Stakes at 6.35. The son of Galileo was very impressive when winning by seven lengths at Gowran Park on his debut.

Boom The Groom and Captain’s Affair both won first time out whilst Fly To The Moon put up an improved performance last time. The market may prove the best guide to the prospects of the unraced Bolger filly Ceisteach.

The meeting opens at 5.05 with an interesting maiden race. Hurryupharriet and Treadstone have been consistent whilst Amygdala showed plenty of promise on her debut.

My Good Brother will be fancied to follow up a six-length victory at Dundalk in the 6.05. The biggest threat could come from Judies Child who was a fast finishing second here last month.

Ballybacka Queen came up against a smart filly in Tarfasha at Galway last week and can go one better in the 7.05. A maximum field of 16 go to post for the apprentice handicap at 7.40 and it may be worth taking a chance on Dundalk runner-up Diamond Daze.

The closing Ladies race can go to Jane Mangan on board Positive Vibes. The gelding was unlucky to be demoted at Killarney last time out and can gain compensation here.
