Excelette the Smart choice in Beverley Bullet

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

The televised Bullet Sprint Stakes is the feature race on Saturday’s card at Beverley and some familiar names line up for the five-furlong dash. Wokingham winner York Glory is likely to go off favourite after running a decent race behind shock winner Jwala in the Nunthorpe Stakes.

Whilst this represents a drop down in class for the grey, he needs things to go his way and there may be better value elsewhere. Caledonia Lady was not disgraced in that race either and was denied a run at a crucial stage.

She could certainly make her presence felt here along with the speedy Masamah. Brian Smart suffered a reverse when Moviesta finished last in the Nunthorpe but is doubly represented here with Tangerine Trees and Excelette.

Preference is for the latter who got very close to Jwala at York earlier this season and rarely runs a bad race. The filly was a winner in Listed company at Haydock last season and has the assistance of Royston Ffrench.

Her Majesty The Queen won’t have had many runners at Beverley over the years but Sir Michael Stoute sends Circus Turn up for the handicap at 3.40. The gelding was all out to win at Goodwood last weekend and incurs a 6lb penalty here.

The danger should come from Mark Johnston’s Windhoek who finished a good second to Mont Ras at the big York meeting. Tactics could be decisive in this small field and Joe Fanning may well set out to make all on the top weight.

Jamie Spencer can get the best out of Jeremy Noseda’s Consign in the 4.15 at the expense of Red Explorer. Consign could never quite get to the leaders at Newmarket last time out but was going on strongly at the finish.

Charlie Hills, trainer of Red Explorer, also has claims with Sound Of Summer in the maiden race at 4.50. She wasn’t knocked about on her debut at Newbury and only needs to show normal improvement to take this.

Selections: 1.55 Illuminating Dream, 2.30 Excelette, 3.05 Rich Again, 3.40 Windhoek (nb), 4.15 Consign, 4.50 Sound Of Summer (NAP), 5.20 Hi Filwah
