Icebuster could prove too hot for Newbury rivals

| 18.07.2013

Icebuster could never get into the race at Haydock last time but that run can be safely ignored. He missed the break and the race was run at a false pace that suited those with a handy position.

He had previously run well behind Godolphin’s Al Saham and a repeat of that effort would take him very close here. Earlier in the season he was a highly respectable fourth in a decent race won by Boonga Roogeta at Newmarket and this could be an ideal chance to get back to winning ways.

The form of that Newmarket race has been boosted on numerous occasions since, most recently by Basseterre last weekend.

Lord Of the Shadows will be seeking reward for his consistency when he lines up under Richard Hughes. The four-year-old has not won since 2011 but has been in the first four in each of his last six outings.

He has been running in some very competitive races including last time out when a fair fourth at Newmarket. Perhaps his best effort came at Epsom in May when just held by Vainglory and he must have a solid chance here if he stays the extra two furlongs.

Gabrial The Great could go off favourite for Luca Cumani and Adam Kirby. The son of Montjeu has a great chance on his form at Newmarket and Redcar but was slightly disappointing last time at Pontefract.

Jack’s Revenge is an interesting contender despite having to shoulder top weight of 10 stone. It is a fairly tight handicap and his run behind Lightning Cloud at Royal Ascot hinted at a return to form. The extra three furlongs should be in his favour.

Frankie Dettori teams up with Marcus Tregoning to ride Opera Box. He put in a below par effort at York last time but has a chance on his earlier form. Ed Walker’s Ruscello is another to consider with William Buick taking the ride.

He came up against a decent sort in Seal Of Approval last time. Jonjo O’Neill’s Prompter could have an each-way chance if putting his best foot forward.
