The Grade A Guinness Hurdle has attracted a strong field headed by last season’s Ladbroke Hurdle winner Cause Of Causes. His form dropped away after that and a more fancied rival is County Hurdle winner Ted Veale.

He won that race with a touch of class, being eased into the lead after the last to beat Tennis Cap by a length and a half. He showed his well being by beating yesterday’s winner Blackmail and Pique Sous at Bellewstown recently and has a major chance.

The main danger could come from Dermot Weld’s Rock Critic who has not been seen since cruising home ahead of Seabass at Fairyhouse in February. He won a maiden hurdle here last year and will be a threat to all if his hurdling stands up in this big field.

The meeting gets under way at 1.55 with the Perfect Pint Beginners Chase. Let’s hope that punters don’t take to the bars too early as it is an eight-race card! Spring Heeled is a strong favourite for Jim Culloty here after some significant withdrawals.

Rebel Fitz looks like a smart chaser in the making and can complete a hat-trick under Barry Geraghty in the 2.20. His main rival looks like Sizing Italy from the De Bromhead stable.

Fairylike can provide Aidan O’Brien with a winner in the mile handicap at the expense of veteran course and distance winner Maundy Money at 3.00. Fairylike won impressively by six lengths over ten furlongs at Leopardstown and should not be inconvenienced by this drop back in trip.

Some decent fillies line up for the Listed race at 3.40 with Weld hoping to churn out another festival winner with Yellow Rosebud. Her form behind Leitir Mor stands up well against some less reliable opponents including the bitterly disappointing Snow Queen.

The 4.15 looks likely to go the way of the Willie Mullins-trained Bally Longford whilst Flying Light has a chance of defying top weight when he lines up for the 5.35.

The unraced Don’t Tell No One will probably start favourite for Weld in the closing bumper at 6.10 but it may pay to side with the more experienced Marley Exit.

Selections; 1.50 Spring Heeled, 2.20 Rebel Fitz (NAP), 3.00 Fairylike, 3.40 Yellow Rosebud, 4.15 Bally Longford, 4.55 Ted Veale (nb), 5.35 Flying Light, 6.10 Marley Exit
