We may as well hand the 2013-14 Premier League Trophy to Arsenal now if all the latest transfer rumours surrounding them are true.

The acquisition of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is apparently a done deal, but the Gunners might also soon boast an embarrassment of riches up front. It’s now 5/6 each of two with Coral that Wayne Rooney leaves Old Trafford and 9/4 that Arsene Wenger wins his signature.

But the big story now doing the rounds is that Arsenal are also very interested in getting Luis Suraez to the Emirates. The unsettled Liverpool striker was, it seemed, definitely on his way to Real Madrid, but the market now speaks of another distinct possibility and Coral go 5/1 that he ends up partnering Higuain in London.

Arsenal have pots of money to spend, by all accounts, and they are also strongly linked with several other top players, most notably defender Ashley Williams, midfielders Marouane Fellaini and Gareth Barry, and goalkeeper Julio Cesar. No wonder Coral have clipped them to 10/1 for the Premiership, but so far all this transfer talk is just that – all talk – and Man United (2/1), Chelsea (9/4) and Man City (12/5) still dominate that market.

Whatever else happens, Wenger will be delighted if he can get Cesar between the posts (4/9 with Coral). The Brazil keeper was very high on the manager’s wish list even before a series of excellent displays helped the Samba Boys win the Confederations Cup.

There is a bit of a lull in the transfer market at the moment, but that is surely just the calm before the storm. United, for instance, will keep knocking on Everton’s door for Leighton Baines and continue their quest for Barcelona midfielder Thiago, while it would be naive to think that City and Chelsea won’t become seriously involved in the action sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, on the managerial front, Coral make Alan Pardew their 2/1 favourite to be the next Premier League boss to lose his job. Managers at underachieving big clubs are always vulnerable, of course, and Pardew’s position at Newcastle looks particularly precarious with the recent controversial appointment of Joe Kinnear as Director of Football at St James’ Park.

Upwardly mobile Michael Laudrup, who might leave Swansea for very different reasons, is next in line at 11/4, while Coral’s 12/1 Paulo Di Canio will interest those who feel that the volatile Sunderland chief might not survive a poor start to the campaign.
