Alutiq can give Cathy Gannon Super Sprint Success

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

The Newbury Super Sprint has turned into a Richard Hannon benefit in recent years so it is no surprise to see his Lilbourne Lass chalked up as the early market leader. She has won two of her three races, both minor affairs at Bath and Jimmy Quinn takes the mount.

Richard Hughes partners Biography, a good winner at Sandown before finishing fourth to Friday’s chock winner Miracle Of Medinah at Salisbury last month. Hannon also saddles the unbeaten Bird Of Light who runs in the same colours as Sky Lantern.

Harry Bentley rides the daughter of Elnadim who was also given a gentle introduction at Bath. Richard Fahey poses an even bigger problem for punters by saddling no less than five here!

Paul Hanagan rides Peniaphobia (It means a fear of poverty before you ask!). He struggled to win at Thirsk last time but is preferred in the betting to Royal Ascot disappointment Eccleston. Foxy Clarets, Gym Shoes and Khalice make up the Fahey five.

Kevin Ryan saddles four runners, the pick of them possibly the lowly weighted Oasis Town under David Probert. He won nicely at Carlisle and looks to be well drawn in stall 24.

The answer to this potential minefield of a race could be Alutiq, the mount of Catherine Gannon. The filly runs in the colours of Qatar Racing and won two of her first three races before running in Ascot’s Queen Mary Stakes.

She was poorly drawn on the near side that day and could never get in a blow at the leaders but still had some useful fillies behind her. She is well drawn in stall 18 and should give Cathy Gannon a good ride.

Other possibilities are Brian Smart’s Lexington Rose, Paul Cole’s Meritocracy and Ed Walker’s Hopefilly. Lexington Rose won well at Musselburgh having chased home the speedy Ventura Mist at Beverley.
