SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Tottenham Hotspur fans, already paranoid about losing their superstar, Gareth Bale, will now also be having sleepless nights over the strong rumours doing the rounds that Andre Villas-Boas is the chief target for Paris Saint-Germain.

Things didn’t work out for AVB at Chelsea, but most agree that the Portuguese has done a good job at Spurs and they would be sorry, not to say a little anxious about the immediate future, if he were to leave.

The bookies are taking these PSG rumours seriously with Villas-Boas now 5/2 favourite to be their next manager ahead of Laurent Blanc, Roberto Mancini, Leonardo and Jupp Heynckes (all 5/1).

There wasn’t really a market for this managerial post when Gus Hiddink was being lined up to replace Real Madrid-bound Carlo Ancelotti, but all that changed when Hiddink decided to stay with Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala and it seems the Paris giants now favour the man currently in charge at White Hart Lane.

Michael Laudrup is also quoted at 10/1 for the PSG job, but it is appears more likely that he will stay at Swansea – Coral rate him a 4/11 shot to stay in Wales.

The transfer rumour-mill has gone a little quiet for the moment with the likes of Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas and Carlos Tevez looking more likely to stay where they are rather than move to pastures new.

Manchester City’s incoming manager, Manuel Pellegrini, will have new players at his disposal (winger Jesus Navas has already joined from Seville for £14.9 million) and ideas of his own, but Tevez is expected to be part of his plans (2/5 with Coral to stay), although Juventus (6/4), Monaco (5/1) and AC Milan (5/1) are among those keeping a close eye on the situation.

Meanwhile, Man United are emerging as favourites to sign unsettled Newcastle midfielder Johan Cabaye, The champions have been linked with several top players in recent weeks, but there will be goings as well as comings at Old Trafford with Nani seemingly on his way out.

Galatasaray have baulked at United’s asking price of £8.5 million and insist they are no longer interested in the Portuguese winger, but the market suggests that this is just the opening salvo in a deal that will happen sooner or later.

Darren Bent’s unhappy spell at Aston Villa would appear to be coming to an end with Newcastle apparently looking to bring the striker to St James’ Park as a belated replacement for Dember Ba. Fulham are also interested in the England international.
