The Group 1 sprint has been won by horses from France, Australia and Hong Kong in recent years but this year the focus is on South African challenger Shea Shea. He has been aimed at this race since recording a convincing victory in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan in March.

Trainer Mike de Kock has given the six-year-old gelding plenty of time to acclimatise in Newmarket and he has been heavily supported in the ante-post betting. He is joined in the nineteen-runner line up by Australian raider Shamexpress.

The four-year-old won the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap over six furlongs last time out but his trainer is no stranger to preparing runners for Ascot. Danny O’Brien brought over Star Witness to finish runner-up in the King’s Stand before finishing third in the Golden Jubilee.

Irish trained Sole Power bids to bounce back from a disappointing display in the Temple Stakes He had previously beaten the veteran Kingsgate Native in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket but the placings were reversed at Haydock.

Robert Cowell, trainer of Kingsgate Native, also runs Spirit Quartz who won a Group 2 at Chantilly last time out and Prohibit, the winner of this race in 2011. Swiss Spirit and Reckless Abandon, second and third at Haydock, also have major chances in a high quality race.

Trainer Clive Cox is convinced that Reckless Abandon can improve on his seasonal debut and gain revenge on his Haydock conquerors.

David Barron runs Pearl Secret who won his first four races before finishing only ninth in the Nunthorpe at York last August. Jeremy Gask runs Medicean Man who was fourth last year whilst David O’Meara’s Move In Time is given another chance at group level after a fine second at Longchamp.

Heeraat was a beaten favourite at Beverley last time but had previously finished close up in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket. Jack Dexter stayed on into sixth in the Duke Of York Stakes after being hampered in his run and represents Scottish trainer Jim Goldie.
