Coral open betting on the next Doctor Who
Doctor Who surprised London’s commuters during rush hour today when he stepped out of The Tardis to give passers-by a free bet with Coral on his successor.
Fans of the longest running Sci-Fi TV show had to do a double-take when The Timelord’s body-double Matt Elliott appeared outside Earls Court Station this morning. The look-alike presented onlookers with free bets to place on which actor they expect to play the next Doctor Who.
The Doctor’s arrival came as Coral slashed the odds on Merlin actor Ben Daniels landing the iconic TV role. The 48-year-old English actor was a 33/1 shot when betting first opened, but is now the standout bookies favourite at 7/4.
Simon Clare, PR director at Coral said: “The Dr Who story has quickly become the biggest novelty betting event of the year, so we decided to bring some Dr Who mania to London’s most famous Police Box.”
“We laid plenty of contenders over the first few days but there has been a major gamble on Ben Daniels over the last 48 hours and he is now a red-hot favourite for the role”, added Clare
Coral’s very own Time Lord has predicted Rupert Grint to become the 12th Doctor.
Matt Elliott said: “Doctor Who is one of the biggest roles on TV and whoever replaces Matt Smith has got massive shoes to fill. Rupert Grint would be my choice, and like many Dr Who fans, I’ve put my money where my mouth is!”
Olivia Colman is the shortest-priced female in the betting at 14/1, while David Tennant is 16/1 for a return to The Tardis. Popular outsiders for the part include Miranda Hart (50/1), David Walliams (66/1) and Hugh Laurie (100/1).
