Arsenal’s odds for the Premier League have often suggested that Arsene Wenger’s side are not ready to challenge for another top league title.

However Wenger’s side made some shrewd purchases before transfer deadline day and are realistic contenders to win a fourth Premier League title, and a 14th top-flight championship.

First founded in 1886, the North London side became the first club from the south of England to join the football league seven years later.

Nicknamed ‘The Gunners’, the club have not looked back since then and in recent times they hold the record for the longest uninterrupted period in the English top flight.

Arsenal last won the FA Cup in 2005

They have been in the top division for a remarkable 96 seasons and that record is likely to be extended for some time to come.

That is because of the excellent set-up at the club which has ensure that punters often support them in the betting before the season starts.

Manager Wenger is now the longest-serving manager in the Premier League and the Frenchman has overseen the club’s move from Highbury to new stadium the Emirates.

Although backed by American sports tycoon Stan Kroenke and Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, Wenger has recruited more frugally than some of the other big Premier League clubs.

Arsenal have won four Premier League titles

However their decision to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.5 million was a real statement of intent and their odds to win the league contracted as a result.

That signing smashed their previous record of £13 million and the betting is that Arsenal’s German international will be a fans favourite for years to come.

Arsenal have won the FA Cup 10 times

The club have won the FA Cup on 10 occasions, most recently in 2005 when they beat Manchester United on penalties; that was their third final win in four years.

For such a consistent side over the years, it is surprising that the Gunners have not had more success in Europe.

Just one European Cup Winners’ Cup win in 1993/4 and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969/70 are all the continental silverware that they have to show.

However Wenger’s side did reach the Champions League final in 2006 before a gallant defeat against Barcelona with 10 men.

Given their stability, the odds on Arsenal lifting the Champions League in the next ten years should be worth having a bet on.
