Irrepressible Chelsea 19/20 to beat leaky travellers Tottenham

| 08.05.2013

Chelsea will be grinning from ear to ear after sneaking past Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday and they return to London to continue a run of four straight wins by polishing off Tottenham for dessert. Spurs have yet to win in 20 trips to Stamford Bridge – the longest such winless away run of any Premier League side – and Chelsea can justify 19/20 favouritism to all but ensure their Champions League qualification for next season.

Such has been the quality of Chelsea’s form of late that there may be a few faces around Stamford Bridge, Rafa Benitez included, that are beginning to wonder whether the Spaniard confirming his end of season exit after the March FA Cup win over Middlesbrough wasn’t a rather rash move. The Blues have won eight of their last 11 games as they zero in on a third spot finish and a Europa League Final.

Nowhere has their strength been more evident than Stamford Bridge, where they’ve won 11 of their last 12 games. It’s at home where their defence is at it’s most resilient too, with five clean sheets and seven single goal concessions in that sequence.

Back in October, when both teams were stringing together impressive early season runs, the Blues overcame Spurs 4-2 at White Hart Lane in a ding-dong affair in which the hosts badly missed the midfield presence of Moussa Dembele – the Belgian is likely to miss out again having come off after 35 minutes against Southampton on Saturday. Spurs have lost just 12 percent of games the Belgian maestro started this term, but fully forty one per cent of those in which he failed to make the XI.

The Lilywhites rearguard have chosen squeaky-bum time to mount a spree of away game generosity with 14 goals shipped in their last six on the road. The likely return of Premier League fourth-top assister Eden Hazard – missing from the line up at United after failing a late fitness test – should give the Blues an extra creative filip and they can score more than 2.5 goals, about which Coral go 7/4.
